Three Questions

Dear New Bay Times~Weekly:

I would like to know when was the first New Bay Times~Weekly published. Could you send a sample copy of a New Bay Times~Weekly? Could you tell me where can I get autographed pictures of women car racing drivers? Please write back.

-Larry Gregor, Lindenhurst, New York

Editor's Note: We can answer young Mr. Gregor's first two questions. The first New Bay Times~Weekly was published on April 22, Earth Day, 1993. And yes, we will send this week's issue so he'll see not only the paper but also his letter in it. But about women car racing drivers we haven't a clue. So we'll have to depend on you, readers, to answer question # 3.

Ban Wacky Handgun Ban

Dear New Bay Times~Weekly:

Attorney General J. Joseph Curran has forgotten he lives in the United States of America. His ridiculous proposal to ban handguns would turn Maryland into a police state. Not only is the plan constitutionally unsound but it also smacks of extremism. This wacky idea is another reason why Maryland desperately needs a two-party system.

I support the Maryland Republican leadership's call for other, saner measures to ensure safety on our streets. For example, I am tired of hearing that violent criminals are allowed back on the street after serving light sentences. Why aren't more criminals prosecuted under Maryland's mandatory sentences? Why are violent criminals allowed to walk away free on legal technicalities?

Maryland needs to enforce the gun laws already on the books instead of making up new ones that take away our basic freedoms. It is no wonder that our state is rapidly becoming the People's Republic of Maryland.

Call for Holiday Stories

Dear New Bay Times~Weekly:

The holidays are not only time to get together and begin new stories but also to become closer by reminiscing about old memories. When fit together like puzzle pieces, our shared stories reveal who we are.

This holiday season, New Bay Times will be sharing favorite holiday stories. We'd like yours to be among them.

Write a simple narrative of a holiday experience or tradition you treasure. Tell us who and where and when and how and even why. You don't need to dwell too much on what your feelings were; the plain facts of the best stories pack their own punch. Try to keep your story to 500 or 600 words.

Send a photo or two, too, because you know what they say about pictures.

By sharing your stories in New Bay Times, you'll touch other holiday hearts and help draw Chesapeake Country into community.

All stories will be read. Stories selected by our editorial board will be published Wednesday, December 22. (We're publishing a day early the last two weeks of the year.)

Send your stories and pictures to: Sandra Martin, Editor, NBT, P.O. Box 358, Deale, Md. · Fax 410/867-0307 · E-mail [email protected]. All photos will be returned.

Don't delay: Early-bird stories have started arriving.
