Wounded Warrior Amputees Play Hardball

NFL players no match in charity softball game

A friendly charity match turned into a beating around the bottom of the fourth inning. The June 1 NFL vs. Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team game drew crowds from nearby military bases and football fans from far and wide.
With Ravens’ starter Torrey Smith pitching, the Wounded Warriors took an early lead and remained dominant throughout the game. NFL players Smith, DeSean Jackson and E.J. Biggers proved handy with a bat, helping their team earn five runs. The fatal flaw of the NFL team was fielding.
By the bottom of the sixth, the Warriors had scored 21 runs and showed no signs of stopping. The NFL knew it was time to raise the white flag, or throw the white towel in the air, which is exactly what the pitcher did after giving up a homerun to Saul Bosquez.
Sorry you missed the big game? Next year, event producer Torrey Pocock hopes to hold an even bigger event with more stars. Memo to the NFL players: Work on your fielding in the off season.
