Call 511

Whether you’re hitting the road for a late summer vacation or slogging through your daily commute, traffic delays are not in your plan. Maryland State Highway Administration’s MD511 service can help you avoid road work, backups and trouble.
MD511 links you to real-time traffic alerts. You can get information in two ways: logging onto www.md511.org or signing up for text messaging and emails. Sign up and alerts can be personalized to your travel routes and customized for automatic notifications with information about travel time, construction projects, traffic incidents and delays.
“If you are traveling on Maryland roadways, 511 is your best tool to save time, fuel costs and frustration,” says highway administrator Douglas Simmons. But, he cautions, use 511 safely. “Maryland law prohibits using hand-held devices while driving. Please access 511 prior to your trip, have a passenger call or use it hands-free.”
